Now Christmas and New Year is out of the way its only normal to start mentally planning any changes to your garden before the spring arrives and whilst we would all love to have a massive garden for the kids to play in and for beautiful blooms and amazing fairy gardens, unfortunately we can’t always get what we want. Sometimes we have to make do with what we have got and whilst a small garden isn’t the best of things to have, there are certainly some great ways to make the most out of it. This post shares some easy ways to make your garden more wildlife friendly
Here are five top tips for you…
Utilise wall and fence space
You may have limited space on the ground but you can also utilise other parts of your garden. Consider some climbing plants or hanging plants to give your garden the look you want. It may not be something that has occurred to you before but it is a great way to make your garden look great without compromising too much on the limited space that you have.
Plan your layout around where the sun is throughout the day
If you want to grow flowers or food in your garden, it is important to consider exactly where the sun is throughout the day before deciding to plant anything in a particular place. The same also goes for your garden furniture – do you want to be directly in the line of the sun or would you prefer to be in a more shadowed part of the garden?
Give the illusion of more space
Look into different ways of giving the impression there is more space in your garden than there actually is. Some gardening experts suggest mirrors to give this illusion but there are plenty of ways you can achieve this effect.
Look into what you can do to achieve more space and put it into action.
Think about the size of your furniture
In fact, do you even need furniture at all? Small gardens do not benefit from large garden furniture sets so consider whether you actually need some. If you still feel that you do, think of space saving ideas that look great too.
Consider your lighting
Many people don’t really use their gardens in winter which is a shame. Good quality lighting is a must if you want to use your garden in the winter and for easy to use lighting you can use solar lighting but its not as effective in the winter months, only giving a few hours of light once its dark.
These are my suggestions for what you can do to get the most out of a small garden. Have you got any tips for what you can do to make a small garden look great?
