As parents, we want our kids to be healthy and to grow up big and strong and to do this, we need to ensure they are eating a healthy, balanced diet. There are certain superfoods, however, that we should be incorporating into their diet on a regular basis so they can reap the benefits and keep healthy.
Here are 5 of the best superfoods for toddlers.
An Apple A Day
We’ve all heard the saying, right? ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ and whilst this may not be entirely true, apples are great for us and toddlers especially. They are a great snack that toddlers often enjoy and they are full of fibre, vitamin and antioxidants. Children enjoy them because they’re sweet and have a crunch and we can rest easy knowing that the snack is healthy and not junk.
Eggs Glorious Eggs
One of the most versatile food products there is, eggs are amazing for a children’s diet. They are a great protein source and also contain a nutrient called choline which helps brain developments. Eggs can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack and can be used in so many different ways that they truly are a superfood you should be giving your child.
Berry Delightful
I’ve never met a child who didn’t like berries and this is great. They not only satisfy your child’s sweet tooth but they are perfect for a snack, adding to yogurt for a dessert or even adding to Weetabix or porridge at breakfast time. They contain an antioxidant which helps improve vision and helps protect the nervous system.
Avocados – A Must Try
Perhaps not the most popular of choices for toddlers if they had their own way but great for their diets so try to give them. They are full of healthy fats with the green fruit being good for the brain and eyes. Try different ways of serving it to them if you find they turn their nose up at it.
Chicken For Protein
Probably every toddlers meat of choice, chicken is a great source of protein. It is mild and tender and less salty than other meats such as pork and gammon which makes it a great food to give your toddler. Whilst they would love you to give them chicken nuggets, try other meals with it in that they are sure to enjoy.
These are just a few tasty superfoods that you should be incorporating into the healthy balanced diet of your child. Fish, especially salmon, is another great choice, with it being full of the healthy fat omega-3 which aids the brain and eyesight.
